Local File Backup

Whilst the Plan B DR Appliance collects nightly snapshots and ships them to the Rescue platform, it also stores those snapshots in case it’s needed later. In fact, it stores as much historical data as it can fit, so it can potentially hold several weeks of snapshots, at any point in time.

This means that our customers can retrieve backup copies of their data directly from the appliances, in much the same way as you would from a traditional tape backup solution. By simply logging on to the Plan B  DR Appliance Portal, you can select the host that contained the snapshot you’d like to recover from, and select the files that you need from the list.

Retrieval is quick, too, as it’s stored on local disk. You may well find, in fact, that it’s a much more efficient approach to running backups than your existing solution.

We’ve also got one very large advantage over most existing backup solutions. Because your rescue images are tested daily by us, this means that we can ensure that the same data you’d use to retrieve files from backup, was updated and that it worked properly.

In fact, we not only know that it was backed up properly,  but also that it arrived uncorrupted on the appliance, that it was sent uncorrupted to Plan B DR, and the data was identical to when it left. We also know that it passes testing, too. If any of those stages don’t happen, we get alerted, and we’ll let you know. So… you can rest assured that when you need your files back, they’re there.
